The Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) is one of Russia’s leading engineering schools, part of the select group of elite Russian research universities. MPEI boasts world-class faculty, among earlier professors we find celebrities like nuclear physicist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Andrei Sakharov.
The Hungarian ambassador to Russia, his excellency Norbert Konkoly presented the individual Gömböc carrying the year of foundation os MPEI to rector Nikolai Rogalev and vice rector Aleksandr Tarasov (Rector Rogalev particpated via video link due to COVID-related restrictions.) The Gömböc was the joint present of the Hungarian Embassy and the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Moscow.
Ambassador Konkoly emphasized in his speech that the Gömböc respresents diplomatic efforts, since the latter also aims to find stable equilibrium. In his response, rector Rogalev described the deep roots of the scientific cooperation between Russia and Hungary and pointed out that the Gömböc may be the perfect symbol of those great traditions.
