The University of Porto, established in 1836 as Polytechnic Academy and Medical-Surgical School, is one of the leading institutions of higher education in Portugal and it is also consistently ranked among the world’s best 300 universities. The Department of Mathematics is located in one of the iconic modern buildings of the Campo Alegre.
The department decided to put Gömböc 1836, carrying the year of foundation of the university as serial number, on permanent exhiobit in its mathematical model collection. The event has been reported on the university’s website.
