Founded by Albert Einstein and Chaim Weizmann in Jerusalem, the world-famous Hebrew University has been in operation since 1925. The Einstein Institute of Mathematics
decided to add Gömböc 1925, commemorationg this date, to its models collection and put it on permanent exhibit at the entrance of the library which is decorated by a statue of Einstein.
The individual Gömböc was presented by H.E. Levente Benkő, ambassador of Hungary in Tel-Aviv to Professor Jake Solomon, chairman of the Einstein Insitute (top picture). Upon unwrapping the Gömböc, Professor Solomon immediately tested its functionality (bottom left) and after he was satsified, the Gömböc was placed by him and Ambassador Benkő into the showcase at the library’s entrance which the Gömböc shares with other interesting mathematical objects (bottom right).
The ceremony was joined by several prominent professors of the institute, among others by Yuri Kifer, Benjamin Weiss, Zlil Sela and Emmanuel Farjoun.
