The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) is not only the leading institution of Latin America, it is also consistently ranked among the world elite of the top 100 universities. The physics department of UBA, named after renowned physicists J.J. Giambiagi , decided to put the individual Gömböc carrying the year of the adoption of this name on permanent exhibit.
Home of the Department (as well that of the Faculty of Natural Sciences) is “Pabellon 1”, an iconic example of the Argentinian architecture of the mid-20th century.
Gömböc 1996 has been transported to Buenos Aires by the Hungarian diplomatic courier service and the Gömböc was presented by his excellency Csaba Gelényi, ambassador of Hungary in Buenos Aires to Professor Juan Carlos Reboreda, dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, UBA.
At the festive event (reported on the homepage of the Department and also on the homepage of the Faculty), Professor Hernan E. Grecco, chaiman of the Physics Department addressed the audience.
Physicist Dr. Juan Zanella gave a presentation about the history and mathematical background of the Gömböc.

The production of Gömböc 1996 (90mm tall, AlMgSi-alloy) has been sponsored by Mr Ottó Albrecht.
