Stanford University, one of the world’s leading institutions of higher education, boasting (among others) 85 Nobel Laureates and 8 Fields Medalists, decided to put Gömböc 1885, carrying its year of foundation, on permanent exhibit.
The Department of Mathematics, hosting Gömböc 1885 has strong ties to Hungarian science: Gábor Szegő served as department chair between 1938-1966 and George Pólya also taught here between 1940-1953.
Our upper picture shows professor Tadashi Tokieda, holding Gömböc 1885 in his hand, in the background we can see Stanford Memorial Church , one of the most iconic buildings on campus. In the picture below, Professor Tokieda is standing next to the custom-made showcase of Gömböc 1885 which the Department decided to position in the Undergraduate Workspace, visited by many students.
The production of Gömböc 1885, standing 90mm tall, made from AlMgSi-alloy, was supported by Mr. Ottó Albrecht.
