Quanta Magazin (ranked as the world’s #1 science news portal) dedicated its March 1st article to the work of Singapore-born mathematician Lek-Heng Lim , professor at the University of Chicago. While owner of several prestigeous prizes (e.g. the James H. Wilkinson Prize, the Hans Schneider Prize), professor Lim preferred to show his Stephen Smale Prize in the Quanta interview (see our upper image), marking the second appearence of the Gömböc in this prestigeous journal. The insignia of the Stephen Smale Prize is, since the foundation of the Prize in 2011, an individual Gömböc. The Prize is awarded every 3 years at the conference of the society for the Foundations of Computational Mathematics (FoCM). Lek-Heng Lim received his Smale Prize in 2017 in Barcelona from FoCM president Ágnes Szántó who recently, tragically, passed away.
The production of the individual Gömböc models for the insignia of the Stephen Smale Prize is sponsored by Mr Ottó Albrecht.
