The oldest and largest institution of higher education in New Zealand, the University of Auckland is consistently ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide. The largest, arguably most significant among its faculties is the Science Faculty which decided to put Gömböc 2016 (180mm tall, manufactured from clear plexiglass) on permanent exhibit at the entrance of its brand-new Science Center building, completed in 2016.
At the placement ceremony for Gömböc 2016 appeared (from left to right) Gábor Domokos, co-inventor of the Gömböc, John Hosking, dean of the Faculty of Science, Bernd Krauskopf, chairman of the Department of Mathematics and H.E. László Zsolt Szabó, Ambassador of Hungary at New Zealand. The Department of Mathematics decided to put Gömböc 1883 (90mm tall, made from Titanium), carrying the year of foundation of the University, on permanent exhibit in its collection.
