Since early April, a numbered Gömböc piece is on display in the collection of France’s foremost mathematical center. In the library of the Institut Henri Poincaré Gömböc 1928 is at a central display, commemomrating the Institute’s year of foundation. Most models in the world-famous collection were manufactured in the twenties of the last century and surrealist artist Man Ray created a series of photographs about the models in 1936.
Director Cedric Villani, Fields-medalist of 2010, told Hungarian News Agency MTI Press that he regarded the Gömböc as a mythical object and compared it to the griffon. More recently, Villani used the Gömböc in a TV show to illustrate the beauty of mathematics.
